Upgraded cell tower made three men sick

Three previously healthy men were forced to flee an office building when the tower on the roof was upgraded to 5G.

The building

The building is three stories tall and located in Sweden. It contains small offices that can also be used as living quarters.

A 3G/4G cell tower (base station) was installed on the roof sometime before 2019. The tower was upgraded to 5G in November 2021, which changed everything. The roof was flat and made of non-metallic materials, so it provided no shielding against the microwaves.

Bengt’s story

Bengt (not his real name) was 57 years old, a consultant in IT and management, and the director of a small company. He leased office space in the building in May 2019, when there already was a 3G/4G tower on the roof. His office was right below the tower, shown as “1” in the picture.

He worked in the office for 2½ years without any health problems. By the time the tower was upgraded, he got contract work in another town and was away for the next six months. During that period he rarely visited his office.

At the end of the contract work he returned and worked full time in his office, and also slept in the adjacent room (“2” in the picture). He was thus very close to the tower both day and night.

Within a couple of weeks he developed headaches, which he noticed disappeared when he left the building. More neurological symptoms came on, especially joint pains, problems concentrating, ringing in the ears, burning skin, sleep problems, and fatigue. It got worse over time.

He moved out three months after he started sleeping there. After a couple of weeks he felt a lot better. Six weeks after he moved out, all the symptoms had completely disappeared. But his health was now damaged, so when he went to a high-radiation area (such as downtown Stockholm), some of the symptoms came back rather quickly.

Five months after Bengt moved away, his brother tried to spend a night in the same room (“2”). He got so severe headaches that he left in the middle of the night. He made a second attempt two months later, but again he had to leave in the middle of the night.

Per’s story

Per (not his real name) was 42 years old. He moved into another office on the top floor (“3” in the picture) nine months before the tower was upgraded. He both lived and worked in the same rooms. He too had no problems before the upgrade, besides minor sleep problems.

He developed a lot of symptoms soon after the tower upgrade, especially worsened sleep problems, depression, anxieties, headaches, and problems concentrating. He also got major tooth pains, despite he had healthy teeth with no fillings or any other problems.

He moved away a month after the tower upgrade, to a house in a rural area with no towers. Here he became symptom free again. A year later he declared he was fully recovered.

Measurements

A scientist got interested and measured the radiation levels in the office spaces, especially where the three men had slept. The readings fluctuated a lot, as expected. The highest peak value was found in the office right below the tower, at 1,180,000 uW/m².

The peak readings for the other rooms were 613,000 uW/m² and 501,000 uW/m².

Comments

The skeptics often suggest that the people who get sick from wireless radiation are technophobes, or they get sick because they know they are irradiated.

Bengt was an IT consultant, which is a high-tech profession, so he was probably not overly concerned about technology.

Both Bengt and Per moved into the building while there was a tower on the roof already, and they had no problems before it was upgraded. They had no reasons to expect the upgrade would cause them problems.

So, why did these three men have problems with a new 5G tower, when they were fine with the older 4G tower? Dr. Hardell has done a lot of measurements of both 4G and 5G towers, and found the peak radiation levels much higher on the 5G towers. This is apparently due to the new “beam forming” transmission methods.
